Position Overview
The Massey University Foundation is a registered charitable trust responsible for fundraising and administering gifts to the university. The mandate of the foundation is to provide philanthropic funding for projects of strategic importance to the university, including research, academic chairs, scholarships, and infrastructure projects. This funding helps Massey University achieve its goals and makes the university academically stronger.

Aligned to Massey University’s centennial celebration, Massey University Foundation is embarking on a three-year fundraising campaign. The goal of the campaign is to build the foundation’s assets to $100 million and create a lasting legacy for the university as it marks 100 years of excellence in education. This ambitious initiative underscores the transformational power of philanthropy and highlights the foundation’s commitment to supporting the university’s future.

We have two full-time positions available and are seeking both Development Managers and Senior Development Managers to grow our team.

The Role
As the successful applicant, your core focus will be to:

  • Build enduring relationships with senior faculty/college members and alumni.
  • Contribute to ideas and development of philanthropic projects.
  • Identify, solicit, and cultivate prospects, and steward existing donors to secure major donations.
  • Cultivate and solicit significant support from those capable of giving principal gifts (i.e. $5 million and more).
  • Engage and interact effectively with individuals, groups, and organisations to gain credibility and match prospective donors and organisations.
  • Work with the development team on agreed fundraising campaigns and targets.


What We Are Looking For
The role requires a proven track record in fundraising, with the ability to think and communicate strategically, deliver sound fundraising plans, manage budgets, and be well-versed in donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. We are looking for candidates who have a demonstrated history of successfully building external partnerships and attracting additional donors through these relationships.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following:

  • High ethical standards with an ability to deal appropriately with confidential matters.
  • A degree qualification.
  • A minimum of three years of fundraising experience (preferably in a not-for-profit or tertiary environment).
  • High level of oral and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare documents and reports for presentation to senior management.
  • High level of communication skills with the ability to relate across multiple levels.
  • Current NZ driver’s licence.

These full time (37.5hrs) roles are based on our Palmerston North campus, which is the preferred location. The salary range for these positions is commensurate of skills and experience within the $79,009-$126,536 range.
