Mō te tūranga | About the Role
The Lead Infrastructure Engineer - Systems Patching is responsible for owning and leading the end-to-end patch management process for AIX, Windows, and Linux workloads. This role encompasses oversight of the patching solutions, leading day-to-day operations and managing a team of Level 1 and Level 2 engineers to ensure systems are updated, secure, and compliant with organizational policies and industry standards. The role serves as the primary point of contact for all patching-related initiatives and escalations, ensuring a proactive, streamlined, and efficient patch management process.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Lead and manage the L1 and L2 engineers responsible for patching across AIX, Windows, and Linux systems.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and upskilling opportunities to the team.
  • Act as the escalation point for patching-related issues and challenges.Patching OperationsDevelop, implement, and maintain patching strategies, schedules, and processes for all supported systems.
  • Own and manage patching tools and solutions, including their configuration, optimization, and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure timely deployment of patches while minimizing system downtime and disruption to business operations.
  • Maintain accurate patching documentation, including policies, processes, and reports. Produce regular reporting on patch compliance, risks, and exceptions for stakeholders.

  • 7+ years of experience in systems admin or patch management, including AIX, Windows, and Linux environments.
  • Proficiency with patch management tools and solutions (MECM, Red Hat Satellite, etc.).
  • Comprehensive documentation and reporting skills
  • The ability to manage stakeholders, coach and mentor junior L1 and L2 engineers
  • Strong vendor management experience
