Pahiatua sits in the heart of the Manatwatu-Whanganui region. With beautiful gardens, cafes and boutique shopping along with 200km of fishable waters, Pahiatua offers the perfect farming work-life balance.

Out Fonterra Pahiatua Farms are located 5 minutes either side of the Pahiatua township and approximately 35 minutes from Palmerston North.

About the opportunity | Te whai waahi
Tui Farm is 170ha and O'Brien Farm is 144ha. There is the potential to be based at either farm with some cross over between the two farms teams. We also have a small 20ha support block where we rear our calves and winter our heifers. Both sheds are herringbones, Tui 30 aside and O'Briens 40 aside with ACR's. A house is available as a part of the role.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Milking 240 cows through either a 40 Aside Herringbone shed with cup removers\ or a 30 Aside Herringbone Shed.
  • Feeding out
  • Break fencing
  • Recording and documentation of activities carried out on farm
  • Weed control
  • Farm maintenance
  • Tractor work
  • Other farm tasks as required


Both farms take the wastewater from our Pahiatua Fonterra Site which means they are irrigated all year round.

About you | Moe koe
You will bring a strong interest for an ongoing career in dairy farming along with some on-farm experience where you are comfortable safely undertaking farming activities across dairy and dry stock operations including milking, stock work, calf rearing, effluent management, farm maintenance and machinery operation.

As a self-starter with a passion to learn and grow, you will be able to work unsupervised as part of a team and ensure that the farms operation in a safe and successful manner.

What sets you apart from the rest will be your positive attitude and willingness to learn, along with confidence to get the task done. You will be comfortable to ask questions to further your knowledge and personal development.

To be successful in the role you will bring:

  • Some previous on-farm experience
  • Excellent attention to detail and a pride in workmanship
  • A genuine passion for farming and a drive to learn more
  • Take pride in the presentation of the farms, as well as have a good sense of humour!
  • Some dairy farming education would also be well regarded
