We are excited to share with you an opportunity to join the Grants and Incentives team, delivering critical, frontline services as a Grants Advisor on a fixed term full-time basis until October 2025.

We are looking for an extraordinary Grants Advisor, with a passion for community and a pragmatic mindset to represent the finance department when interacting with the wider Council and local boards.

As a Grants Advisor, you will implement and evaluate a range of community grant schemes in accordance with the Auckland Council’s strategic direction. You’ll be working closely with not only the Operations Support team but other departments within Auckland Council (e.g. Elected Members, Local Board Staff etc).

The salary range for this role is $63,087-$65,000

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing robust recommendations to decision-makers and accurate advice on contestable grant programs to a range of key stakeholders
  • Supporting the design, development and implementation of community grant schemes that meet council and community objectives
  • Guide community groups to access funding by improving the quality of funding applications via the provision of training, workshops, seminars and communications
  • Attending local board meetings to present on specific grant proposals
  • Identifying and developing process improvements in line with best practise and ensuring these improvements are implemented within the team


He kōrero mōu: About you
To be successful in this role you will have previous experience working with Grants or community projects from within large and complex organisations preferably local government. An administrative skill set will also be important as you will be responsible for drafting and delivering specific grant reports.

You are an analytical individual with excellent problem-solving skills. You can view the bigger picture and will proactively resolve any risks. We are seeking an individual who can balance competing priorities via exceptional organisation skills. which will facilitate you to thrive in dynamic environments.

Demonstrating exceptional communication (written and oral skills), networking, and negotiation skills you will build credible and long-lasting partnerships with multiple stakeholders, often with different agendas. You feel comfortable in political environments and can navigate situations with political acumen and sensitivity.

In addition, we will be looking for:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including powerpoint and word
  • A current and relevant NZ Driver’s licence
  • A confident speaker who is able to represent Auckland Council in a formal setting
  • A tertiary qualification in the environmental field would be an advantage
