Our pool and leisure facilities are more popular than ever, and as Lead Lifeguard for the Lloyd Elsmore Park Pool and Leisure Centre, you will play a key part in ensuring that all customers not only have a fantastic experience but a safe one.
Our staff's operational hours are between:
- 5:00 am - 9:15 pm Monday – Thursday
- 5:00 am - 8:00 pm Friday
- 7:00 am - 7:00 pm Saturday & Sunday
We currently have a permanent full-time position starting with shifts from Thursday - Monday, over a 40-hour week, however this could negotiated for the right candidate.
While we aim to achieve consistent shift times across your work week - to ensure your well-being by assisting in maintaining a good sleep pattern - - We do operate on a shift basis, flexibility to work varied hours will ensure success in the role
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Providing guidance on and supporting the delivery of aquatics-based programmes.
- General lifeguarding duties to ensure customers are safe and looked after; and
- Supporting the Team Leader with day-to-day operations at the Centre."
He kōrero mōu: About you
We are looking for people who are strong swimmers, dedicated to helping others. To work as a pool lifeguard in New Zealand, you will need to hold a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).
The first step in becoming a lifeguard for Auckland Council is to be able to pass this swim test. Please only apply for this position if you feel you can:
- Swim 200m in under 6 minutes.
- Swim 25m sidestroke.
- Swim 50m breaststroke.
- Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool.
- Tread water for 5 minutes

We are looking for people of all ages who are strong swimmers, with flexibility to work multiple days.
Ideally, you will have a current PLPC Certification – we can help you obtain this through training if you don’t currently have this.
To become a lifeguard, you'll need to hold a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate and a First Aid certificate. Don't worry, if you're a suitable candidate, we'll provide you with the necessary training at no cost. Training dates will be discussed once successful applicant is hired
In addition to your swimming skills, we're looking for individuals with proven administration and communication skills, a track record of providing outstanding customer service, and excellent maturity and reliability.
