About the Role

Our open spaces team has an opportunity for an Operations Manager who will be responsible for overseeing our teams, maintaining the mowing and edging across Auckland’s parks and greenspaces.

Reporting directly to our Area Manager and working closely with the broader operations team you will enjoy leading by example and being accessible and visible to your teams in the field. This role requires a manager who is capable of driving productivity from the desk but does not hide behind the desk.

The work scope will include both planned and reactive work and you will be responsible for the implementation of key operational and service deliveries driving quality, productivity, and safety onsite, across the passive mowing teams. This role will suit candidates with previous experience in a commercial environment working with large field based teams. You may be running a crew managing commercial contracts and liaising with clients or looking for a similar role to what you are in, but with some fresh faces and new location.

You will be supported directly in the field with a strong structure of skilled supervisors and team leaders. Laterally there is a further support through the wider team of operations managers, and health and safety team.

This is a leadership and management role, your capability to plan, organise and communicate (written and verbal) will see you excel in this role.

Our teams work in a challenging environment, with temperamental weather patterns, changeable ground conditions and a complexity of machinery and staffing. This requires a leader who is able to think on their feet, champion their people and be solution focused on a daily basis.

What you will be doing?

  • Responsible for the profitability and the productivity of our mowing teams to deliver a high standard of work to pre-set schedules across the North Shore parks and streetscapes. Previous P&L exposure advantageous.
  • Daily and weekly reporting to senior management
  • Responding to reactive requests
  • Providing reporting
  • Running toolbox talks
  • Liaising with stakeholders as a direct point of communication and face of Ventia
  • Working with the inhouse H+S advisor to drive and lead a positive safety culture
  • Auditing worksites to ensure quality and safety
  • Managing your teams schedule of work
  • Ordering of materials


About You

  • Have previous experience managing in field teams
  • Proven experience building and managing teams
  • Previous experience delivering to a pre-set schedule of work in a commercial environment
  • Have effective planning and organisational skills
  • Good administrative and management experience across, budgets, scheduling and quoting
  • Systems and process focused
  • Strong communication
  • Previous experience client facing or stakeholder management
  • Good physical fitness.
  • Full 1 Manual NZ driver’s licence
