Job Description

We are seeking for an experienced and flexible Customs Broker with exceptional communication skills to join our client's team in Penrose, Auckland.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all Inward Cargo Reporting to New Zealand Customs Services (NZCS) are completed and submitted to NZCS in a timely fashion. A pre-clearance model will be followed where pre-alerts are received in advance
  • Identify shipments that require Formal Import Declaration (FID’s), complete them and submit to NZCS and Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI)
  • Liaise with Operational Staff and International Team Leader to ensure all relevant shipments are scanned to MPI Area and NZCS Cage
  • Liaise with Consignees on NZCS requirements and the obtaining of Importer Codes to ensure smooth submission to Customs
  • Assist with daily operations on incoming consols processed through SmartClear
  • Manage exception reporting on incoming consols of delayed flights or arrivals into Contract Freight Management Transitional Facility
  • Provides support, information and guidance to customs on customs duties and tariffs and methods of the clearance of shipments
  • Ensure timely and professional handling of all incoming customer enquiries (by telephone, email or fax), consistent with company standards and policies
  • Examine shipping documents such as commercial invoices and client codes for high value shipments prior to the shipment being released or exported
  • Working closely with the Customs Manager to coordinate the clearance, billing, payment of fees by customers in relation to customs inspection and handling
  • MPI lodgments and entry processing and any storage charges held in bond stores prior to release of their shipments
  • Daily KPI achievements are monitored and are in-line with the KPI set targets


About You:

  • Experience in Microsoft excel to design and develop metrics to drive key business decisions
  • Experience with Trade Single Window
  • Experience with Cargowise and Oracle is advantageous
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Experience in international shipments and global systems
  • Competent analytical skills
  • Competent e-mail, internet and Microsoft office skills & spreadsheets
