We are looking for someone to build us a Social Media strategy to build our online presence!
We are committed to building a robust online presence for the Canterbury Somali community and are seeking assistance to develop a coordinated social media strategy and management plan. Our goal is to unify and enhance our social media platforms to create a significant, positive impact within the wider New Zealand community and achieve our goal of a significant online presence for the Canterbury Somali community!

The strategy should focus on creating a public-facing, cohesive narrative that highlights the cultural richness and contributions of the Otautahi/Somali community. By effectively sharing their stories, traditions, and achievements, we aim to:

  • Foster a sense of pride and unity within the local Somali community.
  • Promote the diverse cultural heritage of the community to a broader audience.
  • Enhance the community's visibility and positive image, particularly within the context of New Zealand society.
  • Build stronger relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies and other community organizations.


We are looking for an experienced social media strategist who can help us:

  • Develop a tailored, multi-platform strategy that integrates the diverse channels we currently use (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) into a cohesive and engaging narrative.
  • Design a brand identity that reflects the values and aspirations of the Canterbury Somali community while appealing to a wide New Zealand audience.
  • Provide recommendations for engaging with our audience and growing our online presence, while fostering a positive and respectful dialogue with both the Somali community and the wider public.
  • This project is pivotal in empowering the Canterbury Somali community to share their cultural heritage and achievements, and we believe that a well-executed social media strategy will be instrumental in shaping a positive and inclusive public image.

What we currently have in place:
We have a website and instagram with archive material including podcast material from Plains FM. We also have a private facebook site. We would like to preserve some privacy while having an public facing page.
