He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We are looking for a Principal Specialists within the Environmental monitoring team. Based in the central hub but can also work from other offices in the Auckland region. This role reports to the Manager of the Environmental monitoring unit.

As Auckland grows, our Environmental monitoring Teams have the responsibility to protect people and places, the community, and the environment. We have a full-time opportunity for a Principal Specialist to join the team and specialise in the Wastewater discipline. The work is varied, challenging, and rewarding. It includes a mix of office and fieldwork that will see you supporting multiple teams around the region. You’ll manage our most complex regional discharge activities, build capability through training, and apply your technical expertise in support of the wider unit.
The Principal Specialist role will also be responsible for the strategic technical direction of the Environmental monitoring unit. You will provide advanced professional guidance such as but not limited to legislative interpretation, best practice in compliance and enforcement, fostering regional and national consistency for compliance activity, successful education and community engagement programmes, and industry-leading innovations. You will be accountable for the formulation and development of strategic direction and policy, as well as leading and supporting initiatives to promote compliance, monitoring and enforcement and providing specific advice. Developing and sustaining relationships with key stakeholders is critical to your success in this role. As required, you will also provide coaching and mentoring for team leaders and staff.

This is a great opportunity for a resourceful and proactive individual who possesses finely tuned communication skills coupled with the ability to think outside the box where the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively will be second nature to you. You will have a tertiary qualification in policy, law, regulatory compliance, or other relevant disciplines. The experience and ability to work on policies and build collaborative relationships with stakeholders are essential to the role with a background in the field of Regulatory Compliance and working knowledge of policy development and implementation and well-developed political acumen.
A current full clean driver's licence is essential.
