Our client is seeking an Associate with substantial experience in employment law. This role offers the opportunity to provide high-quality legal advice, develop internal relationships, and mentor junior team members. The successful candidate will have proven credibility and influence. • Provide high-quality employment advice and representation • Develop and maintain strong client relationships • Proven track record of working across a range of different ER matters. What you'll do: As an Associate, you will be responsible for providing high-quality legal advice and representation to our clients. Your role will also involve representing members where the services of a lawyer are required. You will engage regularly with members to develop long-term business relationships and generate consultancy revenue. Additionally, you will design and deliver training in your field of expertise. • Provide verbal and written legal advice on employment relationship matters • Generate fee-earning consultancy work from members • Represent members in Employment Relations Authority, Employment Court, mediations etc. • Engage regularly with members and potential members to develop long-term business relationships • Design and deliver training in field of expertise i.e. employment law • Display leadership within the Legal Team and provide technical leadership in designated areas of expertise
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for this position brings a wealth of experience in practicing employment law at a senior level across either private practice or an inhouse environment. You have represented clients in the ERA or Employment Court, potentially including high-profile or groundbreaking cases. Your strong interpersonal skills enable you to develop successful relationships both within the organisation and externally. You have proven mentoring and technical leadership skills, with the ability to develop staff to perform at a high level. Experience working in a chargeable/billing environment is essential.
Tertiary qualification in law and a current practicing certificate
Substantial experience practicing employment law at a senior level in New Zealand across various industries and organisations
Experience representing clients in the ERA or Employment Court
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop successful relationships both internally and externally
Proven mentoring and technical leadership skills
Experience working in a chargeable/billing environment
