We are looking for a Team Leader to lead Odyssey's prison-based team delivering AOD programmes at Christchurch Men's Prison.

Odyssey House Christchurch and Purapura Whetu work together in partnership alongside Ara Poutama, Department of Corrections, to provide holistic health and wellbeing programmes within a multi-disciplinary team to support tangata whaiora affected by problematic alcohol and other drug (AOD) use challenges.

You will support and lead a team of clinical, peer support, aftercare and whānau workers, providing a multi-disciplinary approach to working with our client group and work in collaboration with other prison-based teams to provide the best possible treatment options for our clients.

In this role, you will be:

  • Leading a multi-disciplinary team of clinical, peer support, aftercare and whanau workers
  • Demonstrating your proven clinical AOD experience
  • Facilitating groups and individual interventions as appropriate
  • Using a strengths-based approach to developing elective topics and activities
  • Liaising and working with stakeholders
  • Facilitating team meetings
  • Contributing as a Team Leader to wider Odyssey goals


To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Hold a Registration with an allied health profession such as Social Work, OT, NZAC, DAPAANZ etc
  • Work behind the wire in the prison environment
  • A knowledge of community-based services and supports would also be beneficial
  • Have excellent organisational skills as you juggle clinical and leadership
  • Have experience leading a team effectively
  • A good understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and knowledge of tikanga Māori /te reo
  • A non-judgmental approach to working with tangata whaiora

This role is paid under Social Work Pay Equity rates.
