Part-time | 20–30 hours per week | Wairau Valley (Hybrid)
We’re on the lookout for a sharp, proactive Assistant Accountant to join a high-end, fast-paced business in the Wairau Valley. This is a hands-on, part-time role (20–30 hours per week), ideal for someone who’s confident, detail-focused, and ready to hit the ground running with minimal hand-holding.
You’ll be a key player behind the scenes—supporting accurate reporting, ensuring smooth payroll processing, and keeping finances tidy and transparent. If you’re someone who isn’t afraid to follow up on overdue balances or flag gaps in reporting, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing:
Overseeing payroll for 14 staff, ensuring accuracy in hours, contracts & cost allocation
Preparing and coding financial transactions ready for GST filing and year-end accounts
Following up on overdue invoices, including significant balances ($100K+)
Reviewing project time and material descriptions to spot gaps or vague reporting
Ensuring all invoices are backed by the correct documentation—no delays, no surprises
Monitoring margins and materials—while you won’t own job costing, you’ll know when something’s off
Supporting import/export processes, ideally with some GST/VAT experience across NZ and Australia
What we’re looking for:
A confident communicator who can chase things up and hold others accountable
Strong attention to detail and a knack for spotting inconsistencies
Someone comfortable working independently and driving outcomes
Experience with payroll, bookkeeping, and Xero (or similar systems)
Bonus points for import/export knowledge or marine industry experience
