He angitūtanga: The opportunity
As a Lifeguard in our Network Support space, your role will involve providing cover for planned leave and training sessions for our regular employees. You'll enjoy a variable schedule that allows you to work across different sites, supporting lifeguarding and customer support functions. We currently have on offer a flexible 16-hour permanent part-time position and one 40-hour full-time position.

Working on a variable roster with fortnightly changes, your shifts are between 5AM and 10 PM. Please note that at least one weekend day will be required as part of your schedule. This role will provide support and cover across multiple Leisure Centres including South Auckland (up to Manurewa), Howick, Pakuranga, Mangere, and Otara.

Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way.

As a Lifeguard you are responsible for:

  • Providing a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers
  • Educating and enforcing pool rules
  • Responding to any First Aid emergencies
  • Ensuring our pool and the surrounding areas are always clean
  • We will provide ALL training for you free of charge and will pay for you to attend the training to enable you to get your Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).


As we head into the holiday period, we will be reviewing applications in January 2025 and shortlisted candidates can be expected to be contacted the first week of January 2025

He kōrero mōu: About you
We're seeking individuals who are strong swimmers and dedicated to helping others. As a lifeguard with Auckland Council, you'll need to pass the following test:

  • Swim 200m freestyle in less than 6 minutes.
  • Swim 50m breaststroke.
  • Swim 25m side stroke Demonstrate the ability to duck, dive, and retrieve objects from the bottom of a 5m pool.
  • Tread water for 5 minutes.


In addition to your swimming skills, we're looking for individuals with proven administration and communication skills, a track record of providing outstanding customer service, and excellent maturity and reliability. As you'll be working on a variable roster, a full driver's license and access to your own vehicle are required.

You will be required to attend the Lifeguard Training at our WestWave location Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm. The dates are To Be Confirmed at your interview.
