Te Wero – The Challenge

As a Facilities Technical Officer, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the operations of our diverse assets, including facilities, parks, and reserves. Your expertise will ensure that these spaces are well-maintained and meet the needs of our community. You will be at the forefront of managing the day-to-day requirements of our Community Facilities contract, as well as other key contracts within Property & Facilities.

Effective management is crucial to ensure:

  • High standards in service delivery and specifications
  • Timely completion and reporting of audits
  • On-time and within-budget delivery of agreed work outcomes
  • You will also be responsible for forward planning regular servicing and maintenance of assets, operational planning, and providing clear financial overviews of associated budgets.


Strong customer service and problem-solving skills are essential for building relationships with contractors, committees, and the public.

I ā koe - About You

We’re seeking a candidate with:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and 3+ years of experience in at least two of the following: contract management, building maintenance, open spaces/parks management, or program development and compliance.
  • At least 2 years in a similar role, ideally within NZ local government.
  • Strong knowledge of contract interpretation, auditing, and administration.
  • Familiarity with local government procurement and contract specifications.
  • Proven financial and budgeting skills.
  • Enthusiasm for excellent customer service.
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori.
  • Ability to build positive team relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High professionalism and business acumen.
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and facilitation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Commitment to community outcomes.
  • Desirable: knowledge of the district’s geography, culture, and history.
  • Progressive mindset for continual improvement.
