Enabling Smart Council to provide these important services is our development team who are responsible for focusing on how we better "digitally integrate" with our customers and external partners across multiple channels, particularly the internet, to drive a comprehensive and cohesive customer service experience.

The main purpose of this role is to ensure that Smart Council delivers software of the highest quality through the use of automated and manual testing. This will require analysis, test design, and technical expertise to ensure quality and efficiency. You will lead the testing phase of development, ensuring that applications meet high standards of performance and reliability. You will recommend ongoing improvements to Smart Council's testing capability.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our testing practices.
  • Design, develop, maintain, and evolve optimal test automation solutions in the areas of UI, Integration, or Data.
  • Collaborate with product owners and delivery leads to ensure appropriate test coverage of core functionality, API's and data.
  • Engage with product owners to identify proper test acceptance criteria.
  • Mentoring of junior members of the test automation team.
  • Supporting a high-performance team culture.
  • Perform both manual and automated testing.



About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary level qualification in computer science or relevant area of study or at least 8 years of IT experience, including a minimum of 3 years as a Software Tester
  • Strong experience in both automated and manual testing
  • Experience with software testing tools such as Selenium, Playwright, JUnit, and TestNG
  • Knowledge of in programming languages such as C#, TypeScript or JavaScript,
  • Experience with version control systems like GitHub, Azure Devops, etc.
  • Strong familiarity with Agile methodologies and working in agile delivery environments.
  • Knowledge of database management systems, including SQL and NoSQL databases, to validate data integrity and perform backend testing.
  • Experience creating, maintaining, and improving test automation frameworks.
  • Experience in leadership such as test lead (formal or informal).
  • Skilled in test planning and proven ability to granulate large items of work into smaller tasks.
  • A positive and proactive attitude who enjoys problem solving and engaging with agile squads.
  • Enthusiasm about technology and a strong results/solutions focus.
