Job Description

We have an ambitious capital works plan to deliver on our long-term plan for the district. We also have an internal organizational and business projects portfolio to deliver. Working within the Project Management Office, you will provide hands-on project management advice and guidance to support the delivery of the Long-Term Plan.

This role will help improve the overall capability and knowledge of Project Management in the organization by working in collaboration with staff across all groups to ensure all projects being planned and delivered are in accordance with the Project Management Framework

Also, with the recent implementation of the Project and Portfolio Management System (PPM - CAMMS), this role will be the subject matter expert acting as key system admin and interface between the Project Management Office and end users to maintain a fit for purpose system.

This position reports to the Team Leader – Project Management Office but works closely with the Portfolio Specialist.

Te Wero – The Challenge

Supporting the Project and Portfolio Specialist, you will be working closely with Project Managers, and many Business Teams across the organisation.

You will also contribute to the collation of data on project management activities for executive reporting. This is an exciting mid-level role within a busy team.

The key accountabilities of this position are:

  • Maintain the PPM system ensuring our staff are supported in their daily use of Camms.
  • Medium level system administration and configuration, managing updates to the solution and promulgating changes across the Community of Practice.
  • Day to day troubleshooting with Project Managers, module specialists for Project, Risk and Strategy, and problem resolution within Camms.
  • Take the lead in creating educational materials for users of Camms and the PM Community of Practice, including training new starters.
  • Support the production of analytical reports and information to Senior Management and Elected Members, highlighting project delivery and activity.
  • Ensure staff using Camms are updating risks, schedules, resource allocation, time-entry and reporting in a timely manner.
  • Co-ordinate activities across projects and programmes as required (i.e. governance reporting, risk escalation, monitor resource allocations).
  • Support programme leads and change specialist on high value, high impact organizational programmes.
  • Maintain our internal Sharepoint site for relevant updates to the project management framework.
  • Create and maintain templates, as required, in line with evolving business needs and in consultation with the Portfolio Specialist.


I ā koe - About You

We’re seeking a candidate with:

  • Tertiary level qualification in Project Management, business or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience delivering projects or have held a previous similar role in a PMO
  • Project and / or Programme Management certification(s) (Prince2, PMP, Agile, MSP)
  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience in utilising Project Management Systems, especially dashboard reporting.
  • Knowledge of local government functions (preferred).
  • Strong stakeholder relationship skills.
  • Self-motivation and initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Precision and attention to detail under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to understand and promote Te Ao Māori, tikanga, Te Reo Māori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • A commitment to community outcomes.
