About the Organisation:

This dedicated organisation plays a pivotal role in improving the health and wellbeing of communities by addressing the impacts of cancer. Their mission is to provide essential support to individuals and whānau affected by cancer, offering services that include counselling, transport, accommodation, cancer prevention, and advocacy. They work with a strong commitment to providing a compassionate, supportive environment for all those in need.

About the Role:

The Cancer Support Nurse will be an integral part of the Cancer Services team, providing vital information and assistance to those affected by cancer in the Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti, and Hutt Valley regions. Empathy, trust, and clear communication will be at the heart of this role.

Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals:

Building strong professional relationships with healthcare providers will be crucial in ensuring that clients receive the best possible support. The Cancer Support Nurse will help coordinate referrals and promote available services, particularly among Māori, Pasifika, and other vulnerable populations who are disproportionately affected by cancer.

Group Facilitation & Education:

The Nurse will organise and lead a variety of cancer-related support groups and educational sessions, ensuring they meet the needs of the community. They will work closely with other experts to deliver informative workshops and will evaluate the effectiveness of these programs to continually improve services.

Resource Management & Distribution:

Community Outreach & Awareness:

The Cancer Support Nurse will actively engage in community events and campaigns aimed at raising awareness and supporting the organisation's cancer services.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • A Registered Nurse with a current New Zealand Nursing Council Practising Certificate
  • At least two years of clinical nursing experience, with a preference for oncology, haematology, or community-based nursing
  • Further education in oncology nursing is highly desirable.
  • Full, current driver's license
  • Strong cultural awareness, especially in relation to Māori and Pasifika communities, with experience working alongside diverse groups.

Why Join?
