Wellington City Council is on track deliver the most ambitious capital works programme our city has ever seen. The Infrastructure & Delivery group is central to much of this mahi.

Sitting within this group is our Capital Projects team who have several significant programmes of work underway such as our Housing Upgrade programme.

We are now looking to add a Senior Project Manager to this team to help deliver a variety of projects that ranges from potentially new high density multi-residential developments, substantial seismic upgrades, and the upgrading of standalone houses. Wellington City Council residential portfolio is diverse which presents great opportunities to the project manager that enjoys a challenge.

As the Senior Project Manager, you will work closely with a range of stakeholders, consultants, and contractors, and will be responsible to lead projects to success, from inception to completion. With the experience you bring to the team, you will also have the opportunity to provide mentorship to junior staff in support of our goal for individual development and continuous improvement.

A quick snapshot of your day:

  • Proactively and autonomously lead and manage the delivery of projects, ensuring successful execution within agreed budget, programme, and scope parameters, refining, and enhancing project delivery procedures and processes.
  • Identify potential options for project delivery, generate associated scenarios and present to the Project Director for discussion, consideration and subsequent decision making.
  • Develop Project Management Plans to serve as the project team's guideline to successfully manage project integration, scope, timeline, cost, quality, risk, resourcing, communication, procurement, stakeholder, and change management.
  • Create procurement documentation that includes procurement plans, tenders, supporting documentation, including selecting appropriate contracts for the type of services to be acquired.
  • Stakeholder engagement and management, including collaboratively working with our colleagues in other parts of Wellington City Council.
  • Project reporting and communication.



About you

With over 10 years construction industry experience (residential or commercial) you will hold a tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience in project management, design and/or construction management.

Along with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with all stakeholders, you will be experienced in the successful management of contracts, including understanding, interpreting, and responding to management, operational and financial information.
