Āu ake mahi | What you'll do
We are looking for a passionate and motivated person to join our team as a Weed Control Team Member.
This role sits in the Operational Projects Team based in the Parks Newtown Depot. The team provides a critical customer facing support service, ensuring the city's residents and visitors enjoy a well-managed and maintained environment. It is responsible for a variety of operational maintenance programmes across a wide range of council reserves, parks and play spaces.
This role will be involved in the day-to-day operations of weed control but must be flexible to work across all associated programmes and contracts related to the Operational Projects Team. This may include but not limited to, vegetation maintenance, weed/pest plant control, asset repairs, litter control, restoration planting and maintenance, coastal grooming and auditing work associated with these contracts/programmes.
Ngā tohu me ngā wheako | Qualifications and experience
We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and someone who is prepared to work as part of a team. Ideally, we are looking for someone who has a horticultural qualification or relevant experience but this isn't a must. A full, clean class 1 driver licence is required and a Growsafe certificate would be desirable, although it is not necessary as on-the-job training will be provided.
You will:
- Love working outdoors
- Be self-motivated and physically fit
- Have demonstrated experience using small machinery
- Have the ability to work to programmed maintenance schedules
- Demonstrate health & safety awareness
- Be able to work in a team environment and/or unsupervised
- Have experience dealing with customers
