The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) is a key part of the detection, prevention and investigation of a range of offences in New Zealand and overseas. We receive a vast amount of information from the private sector pursuant to the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009 that provides leads and is used to support investigations.

As an Intelligence Support Officer, you will support the FIU in anti-money laundering efforts including the investigation of organised and transnational criminal groups and the disruption of terrorist financing. This includes working in a busy Wellington team to ensure quality information from reporting entities is available for use by intelligence and law enforcement practitioners.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Verify the accuracy of information being collected and entered and ensure database records are corrected where any discrepancies are detected
  • Collect, analyse and escalate or disseminate information appropriately to assist decision makers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external agencies including communicating with reporting entities both verbally and via the goAML message board
  • Contribute to a high performing team through ongoing support to your team

  • Good data entry skills, the ability to clean, sort and organise data and able to quickly learn and use new software
  • Demonstrate attention to detail to ensure data quality and accurate information is processed in a timely manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Background in the financial sector is desirable but not essential
