He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role:
As the Senior Systems Assurance Engineer for the Auckland Metro and CRL projects, you’ll play a vital role in supporting KiwiRail’s commitment to safety and quality across our capital projects. You’ll be responsible for developing, implementing, and improving KiwiRail’s systems assurance framework, ensuring compliance with EN50126 standards and regulatory requirements. Working closely with project teams, regulatory bodies, and other key stakeholders, you will help embed safety assurance principles into the design, construction, testing and commissioning and operational readiness of major rail projects, contributing to the safe delivery of the Auckland Metro Programme and City Rail Link.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development and integration of systems assurance frameworks that align with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Conducting risk assessments and hazard analyses for capital projects.
  • Reviewing and assessing systems assurance deliverables to ensure compliance.
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, providing technical advice on safety case variations and assurance matters.
  • Collaborating with project teams to ensure that safety assurance practices are integrated throughout the project lifecycle.


Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What (skills) you will bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in systems safety and assurance, preferably within the rail, transport or similar sectors.
  • Strong working knowledge of EN50126 (RAMS) or similar standards, and practical experience with safety case management and functional safety risk assessments.
  • Solid understanding of Health and Safety at Work Act (2015) and the Railways Act (2005), with experience in applying them to risk assessments.
  • Proven ability to engage with regulatory bodies and work with functional safety assurance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with railway systems and infrastructure projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of building effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to explain complex safety issues clearly and concisely.
