Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Campus Life is excited to welcome an Administrator to the Student Engagement team. This pivotal role focuses on supporting faith-based activities on campus by providing essential administrative assistance, ensuring the smooth operation of faith-based spaces, services, and events.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the day-to-day upkeep of faith-based spaces and facilities to ensure they remain welcoming and functional.
  • Offering comprehensive administrative support for faith-based staff and student activities.
  • Serving as the first point of contact for faith-based clubs and organisations
  • Providing day-to-day administrative assistance for the Head Chaplain and the Chaplaincy Team.
  • Assisting with other duties related to faith and spirituality at the University, as reasonably required.


The Student Engagement Administrator (Faith and Spirituality Services) is based at the Maclaurin Chapel and reports to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Manager within Campus Life.

This is a part-time (0.5FTE: 18.75 hours per week), permanent position.

Remuneration is $50,700 - $61,700 per annum (pro rata), depending on skills and experience.

Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the team

The Ratonga Pā Whakawairua | Maclaurin Chaplaincy exists to serve University of Auckland students and staff in exploring matters of faith and enrich the spiritual wellbeing of the University and its community. It is supported by the Maclaurin Goodfellow Trust Board in partnership with Campus Life, which maintains the buildings and provides a part-time administrator.

The Chaplaincy is based at the Maclaurin Chapel and Hall and comprises of chaplains from Christian (Protestant and Roman Catholic) and Muslim faith backgrounds, and partners with members of other faiths. Some chaplains work especially with international students, offering connection and support with events at the Chapel and Hall, as well as in other parts of Campus Life.

Our ideal candidate is a strong administrator and a skilled and tactful communicator who thrives in working with diverse people and communities. You will be empathetic and adept at balancing responsibilities while collaborating across teams to connect Campus Life with the Chaplaincy.

You will also:

  • Hold a relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Have at least one year of administrative experience, including providing high-level support to various stakeholders.
  • Be experienced in managing facilities proactively and fairly.
  • Contribute to a warm and inclusive environment that welcomes all.
  • Understand the role of faith and spirituality in holistic wellbeing.
  • Recognise and respect the intersections of faith and spirituality with other identities, such as rainbow, disabled and cultural communities.
  • Bring experience from working or volunteering in a spiritual environment.
