Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Taking orders and correctly putting them into the system
  • serve food and drinks to the correct table and customer
  • Ensuring that food and drinks are clean, complete and presented according to the set standard before serving them to customers.
  • accept and process payments from customers
  • Capable of handling customer complaints and issues ensuring that the service provided to them exceed their expectations.
  • Knowledge of the New Zealand Alcohol laws
  • Knowledgeable in different kinds of allergies and ready to provide recommendations to help customers according to their food requirements
  • Product knowledge
  • Practice in answering phone and ensuring all details are correct when taking reservations
  • Stock taking and refilling of supplies in the bar with first in first out (FIFO) procedure is practiced
  • Assist the chefs in food preperation as required
  • Follow hygiene and health and safety regulations within the kitchen
  • Clear soiled plates, glasses and cutlery and wiping the tables with sanitizer
  • Wash, sort and polish glasses and cutlery
  • Washing of plates, cutlery, coffee cups and cooking equipment and making sure they are stored apropriately
  • Proper disposal of rubbish in correct bins and cleaning the rubbish bins on a scheduled basis
  • Ensuring that the bar, Kitchen and garden areas are always tidy and presentable
  • Cleaning toilet twice a day
  • ensuring proper use and storage of chemical/cleaning products
  • Shift may include cleaning and attending to the garden on a scheduled basis
  • Will be required to work on a shift basis (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  • Can be assigned to the Deli
  • Any other duties the employer may reasonably require


Relevant Qualifications

  • Level 1 National certificate in Hospitality (Entry skills) or at least 6 months equivalent in hospitality and customer service industry experience
  • excellent English communication
  • willing to stay in Akaroa
  • Willing and capable to switch from front of house to kitchen and vice versa
  • kitchen hand experience preferred but not required
  • Honest & reliable
  • Able to work quickly and safely
  • Can work under pressure
  • Cheerful personality
  • Team player
