He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:
Based at our Waltham depot in Christchurch, you’ll work hands-on with our Locomotives, ensuring they’re safe, reliable, and ready for action. Whether it's routine maintenance or responding to the unexpected, you’ll be a key part of keeping our network on track.
In this role, you will:
- Carry out scheduled maintenance and repairs on rolling stock
- Diagnose faults and work collaboratively to resolve issues
- Conduct safety checks and support operators in equipment use
- Keep accurate records and follow safety procedures
- Support yard operations including shunting and piloting when required
Please note that this is a full-time, permanent position with a starting hourly rate between $33.05 and $42.20, based on your qualifications and experience.
Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What you will bring:
We're looking for someone with:
- A Level 3–5 NZQA trade certificate in mechanical fitting, diesel mechanics, or related field
- Experience in heavy industry, automotive, or locomotive engineering
- A strong focus on safety, problem-solving, and quality results
- The ability to work well in a team and adapt to changing priorities
- Full Class 1 Driver Licence
- Relevant Pre-Trade Qualifications and Certifications
It’s a bonus if you also have:
- Welding certification (AS/NZS 2980 or ISO 9606.1)
- F endorsement on your full NZ driver’s licence
- Gantry crane unit standards (US 30072 and 3800)
- First aid certification
