We're Working for Wellington. Wellington City Council's team provides more than 400 services every day for Wellingtonians - everything from parks and pools to consents and cemeteries - playing our part in making Pōneke an inclusive, sustainable, and creative capital for people to live, work and play.
The Parks Operations team provide a crucial customer facing support service, ensuring the city's residents and visitors enjoy a well-managed and maintained environment.
The role
We are looking for two physically fit, motivated, and enthusiastic individuals to join our team in Parks, Sport and Recreation, Horticulture Team. Satisfying, challenging, and rewarding. In this important, fun, and rewarding role, you will earn a salary while you gain valuable work experience, complete qualifications (including traffic management, Growsafe), work in a variety of locations across the many beautiful gardens of Wellington and enjoy the benefits of working alongside knowledgeable industry professionals with years of experience.
Who are we looking for?
This role requires you to have a driver's licence - even better if you have a class 2 heavy trade licence but if not, we can support the right person to complete this. A Horticulture qualification would be ideal but not essential however you do need to be willing and eager to learn. If you've got NZQA Level 3 National Certificate in Amenity Horticulture, we can support you to complete your level 4 qualification.
You will need to be comfortable using agrichemicals, be tech savvy on a mobile phone with the ability to learn new apps and systems.
We are looking to appoint between $59,987- $70,572 per annum, which equates to an hourly rate of $28.76 - $33.83.
There is a requirement to be physically fit and applicants must be prepared to undergo pre-employment health, fitness, and drug screening. Applicants must also be eligible to work in New Zealand to apply for this role.
