Conservation Learning & Community Engagement Manager
Auckland Zoo is a community-serving cultural organisation with a mission to ‘bring people together to build a future for wildlife’. Through science, learning & training, and strengthening our relationship with Te Ao Māori, we strive for excellence in animal care & welfare, conserve wildlife in the wild and nurture a lifelong connection with nature to enhance the well-being of our communities.

We are looking for a Conservation Learning and Community Engagement Manager to join the Conservation Advocacy and Engagement Department. The senior manager role reflects the Zoo’s strategic roadmap to build meaningful and inspirational connections with diverse audiences to deliver impactful conservation and social outcomes.

The role reports to the Head of Conservation Advocacy and Engagement and will manage two direct reports: Duty Operations Manager – Conservation Learning and Kaimanaaki (Kia Ora Ake)

The successful candidate will play a lead role in strategically developing the conservation learning portfolio onsite at Auckland Zoo, through outreach programmes, and via the Zoo’s new Online Learning Platform. They will lead all aspects of the community engagement portfolio, including the Wellbeing in Nature Community Programme, the Zoo’s involvement in Kia Ora Ake, and initiatives that enable the Zoo to serve our communities in a more inclusive, equitable and relevant way. A key deliverable is to focus on the promotion, expansion, innovation and pedagogical quality of all learning, training and community programmes against financial and mission-driven outcomes.

The role is 40 hours per week; however, this role requires flexible working, including some evening and weekend work, which may include public holidays as required to manage and deliver the role’s portfolio.

It is essential that you have a degree in a relevant field/discipline.

In addition, we are looking for candidates with the following attributes:
High motivation and enjoys the challenge of leading teams to create, deliver, and evaluate innovative programmes that improve outcomes for people and nature.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in relevant fields
Passion, skills and extensive experience in strategic development and operational management of education, learning and/or community engagement programmes.
Knowledge and experience in budget management and delivering on financial and mission-driven KPIs
Committed to continuing to strengthen their relationship with Te Ao Māori
