Mō te tūnga | About the role

As a Support Worker you will be supporting people with intellectual disabilities to enjoy great lives at home and as part of their community. This is meaningful work where you can be creative and make every day interesting in ways that are important to others. In this role you will be supporting individuals with complex behavioural support needs. No one is too disabled or "challenging" to be supported in taking an active role in their life.

We are looking for someone to join as a full-time Support Worker in a Planned Leave Cover (PLC) role. Our PLC roles cover staff leave, so they do not have a fixed shift pattern and will work in different facilities across the South East Auckland area. Your fortnightly shift pattern will vary, but you are guaranteed at least 65 hours per fortnight. This role requires you to have availability to work a range of rostered shifts, including mornings, evenings, overnight sleepovers, and every second weekend.

Your role involves helping the people we support to:

  • recognise and respond to emotional overwhelm and react safely to this.
  • grow their independence and learn skills for daily living such as using public transport, getting a job, cooking a meal, emotional regulation.
  • manage their daily routines - shower, get dressed, take medication or eat a meal.
  • pursue their goals, interests, and hobbies.
  • stay healthy and making positive choices about their lifestyle.
  • have strong connections with their whānau and community.
