He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We are on the lookout for an experienced individual to take the lead, protecting and enhancing the environment and natural landscapes of Auckland's Western Regional Parks. From vast forests with magnificent Kauri to the black volcanic sand surf beaches synonymous with Auckland's west coast, the Western Regional Parks encompasses everything that New Zealand is world renowned for.

Engaging with local Iwi, community and volunteer groups, we are looking for someone with a passion for conservation and preserving the environment - in a way where our community can engage, enjoy, value and respect the Waitakere Ranges.

There will be opportunities from time to time, to participate in some hands-on Ranger work, but a major focus of this role is to provide management and leadership for a team of park rangers, organisation and management of pest control contractors and to contribute to the development of an effective high performing team by providing direction, motivation and development of performance.

You will mainly be based out of our Western offices at Arataki but on any given day you will work across the Western Sector Regional Parks which include the Waitakere Ranges, Muriwai and Te Rau Puriri Regional Park to ensure the health of the parks are maintained and enhanced for everyone to enjoy both now and into the future.

You will be required to be on call/standby as a part of a regular roster cycle and may be called upon to support staff in the field when rostered on weekends and public holidays.

He kōrero mōu: About you
Along with your experience in conservation or biodiversity, you'll also bring to this role - a depth and breadth of knowledge of specialist areas including ecological restoration programmes, plant and animal pest control. This is a diverse role, offering you opportunities to run conservation programmes across the Western Parks in conjunction with local community groups and partners.

To be successful in this role, you'll be practically-minded and be calm under pressure. You'll also have excellent communication skills and proven leadership experience, having coached and developed staff. Knowledge and understanding of the New Zealand Health and Safety procedures in the work place and some farming knowledge including sheep and dry stock would be a real bonus.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer
This is a fantastic opportunity to play your part in preserving the legacy of Auckland's Regional Parks whilst taking the next step in your career progression.
