THE OPPORTUNITY:

Are you a creative and dynamic newsroom leader with a passion for delivering high-quality video content? In this pivotal role, you’ll lead the charge in ensuring breaking news is delivered swiftly, interviews captivate, and vital context is wrapped around significant news events and issues. Collaborating across teams, you’ll be a key player in shaping the future of our multiplatform video strategy, crafting innovative, audience-first stories that keep us ahead of the competition.

HOW YOU’LL DO IT:

  • Mentor journalists, visual producers, and other team members, helping them deliver stories for video platforms.
  • Bring innovative ideas to the table, leveraging your understanding of audience behaviour and multiplatform strategies.
  • Step into hands-on roles when needed, whether scripting, producing, or briefing key talent.
  • Maintain a steadfast commitment to quality and accuracy, championing NZME’s editorial standards and code of ethics.

ABOUT YOU:

You’re a seasoned newsroom professional with a proven track record in video journalism and content production. You’ll bring:

  • You’ll have experience in programme production, ideally in a senior leadership role, including overseeing the overall output of video-based shows including editorial direction, look and feel and managing key talent.
  • A relevant qualification and/or significant experience in senior newsroom roles.
  • Expertise in multimedia content delivery, with a solid understanding of digital and broadcasting environments.
  • A collaborative mindset with a talent for inspiring and mentoring others.
  • A creative approach to storytelling across platforms, with a keen eye for engaging visuals and compelling narratives.
  • Strong news judgement, organisational skills, and the ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

WHAT’S ON OFFER:

NZME is one of New Zealand’s largest media companies, made up of over 50 leading media brands including: The New Zealand Herald, Newstalk ZB, ZM, The Hits, iHeartRadio and OneRoof.

Your workplace will be in central Auckland in a modern well-equipped office that boasts not only radio studios but newsroom hubs, multiple breakout areas and our popular iHeart lounge that hosts a variety of internal events.
