Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience (HW&FR) department has an opportunity for a Healthy Waters Specialist within the System and Insights team.
Auckland Council’s System and Insights team is seeking a Stormwater Specialist to play a key role in advancing our stormwater management. You will be at the forefront of addressing flooding, enhancing flood resilience, and improving water quality.
You will have a thorough understanding of environmental monitoring network design, and the ability to process and analyse data. You will be an innovative and systematic thinker who wants to be a part of a rapidly evolving programme of work to improve the utility of Healthy Waters operational data through collaborative efforts with internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in data systems, modelling, hydrology and water quality, with a passion for achieving positive outcomes for the community.
- Day-to-day you can expect to work on:
- As part of team of industry experts you will bring a passion for innovation to your work to enhance existing tools/systems and Auckland’s stormwater management.
This will include;
- Utilising real-time analytics tools to monitor and analyse stormwater-related data for timely decision-making.
- Analysing and interpreting extreme event statistics to enhance preparedness for unforeseen weather-related challenges.
- Preparation of comprehensive post-storm event reports to evaluate the impact on stormwater systems and recommend improvements.
- Utilise hydrological and water quality databases and analytical tools for effective stormwater resource management, ensuring accurate and efficient data analysis.
- Assist in the development of machine learning and artificial intelligence systems to analyse and predict stormwater-related effects
- Assist in the development of a remote sensing camera network to enhance stormwater monitoring capabilities.

He kōrero mōu: About you
This position requires a minimum of 3 years’ work experience in a related relevant technical area, including project initiation and delivery. You’ll also have a Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology or related field including engineering, data science, or environmental science. (A relevant post-graduate qualification – post graduate diploma, masters, doctorate or equivalent postgraduate experience or similar qualification will also be acceptable).
It will also be advantageous to a have an understanding data systems and processes, with familiarity of the analysis and manipulation of large databases and systems.
