Key Responsibilities:

As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a crucial role in managing the end-to-end payroll function for our client's organisation. Your responsibilities will include processing accurate payments, ensuring compliance with New Zealand's payroll regulations, preparing pay orders, addressing payroll issues promptly, maintaining personnel files confidentially, monitoring leave accumulation, administering long-service rewards among others. Your ability to handle these tasks efficiently will contribute significantly to the smooth running of the organisation.

  • Process and manage the group’s end-to-end payroll function using a computer system to ensure accurate and timely payments.
  • Gather and validate information on hours worked, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and other payroll data.
  • Calculate payroll, including tax and benefit payments, ensuring compliance with New Zealand payroll regulations.
  • Prepare and execute pay orders via electronic systems or distribute paychecks as required.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for managers and employees regarding payroll and leave-related queries, offering expert advice and support.
  • Address and resolve payroll issues promptly and professionally.
  • Process tax obligations (PAYE, KiwiSaver, etc.) and employee benefits accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain personnel files and ensure confidentiality of employee information.
  • Monitor and report on excessive leave and leave accumulation, alerting managers as needed.
  • Administer long-service rewards, including reminding managers of upcoming work anniversaries.


Key Requirements:

The ideal candidate for this Payroll Specialist position brings proven experience managing end-to-end payroll in New Zealand. You possess strong knowledge of payroll legislation, tax obligations, and employee benefits. Your proficiency in payroll software coupled with advanced Excel skills sets you apart. Experience with Xero system is essential while familiarity with Smartly system is desirable. Your excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and ability to manage deadlines will be key to your success in this role.

  • Proven experience managing end-to-end payroll in New Zealand.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, tax obligations, and employee benefits.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with Xero system essential.
  • Experience using Smartly system desired.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to handle queries and provide advice.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and handle confidential information with integrity.
