Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity
The Downer South division is highly respected and has a great track record for delivering a high standard of work across the country. We are looking for a General Hand(s) to provide support within the Rangitīkei District out of our Marton and Taihape depots.
As a General Hand, you will be involved in varied projects assisting with civil work, operating of machinery, and preparing worksites. This role may present an entry-level opportunity for people interested in civil infrastructure and roading.
You will be involved in the undertaking of day-to-day manual labouring duties and some general operation of light machinery as well as. This could include:
- Helping with safe site setup for your crew and the general public (traffic management)
- Hand work including digging, barrowing, minor vegetation control, painting, water blasting
- Ensuring efficient use of materials, supplies and equipment while working as part of a cohesive team to deliver to client requirements
- Please note that this role will not start until July 2025.
Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills
You will be a physically fit and motivated person and will bring with you:
- Class 1 Full New Zealand Drivers License (essential) Class 2 preferred or expected to be gained with support, WTR endorsements would be advantageous
- Ability to work within a team and alone when required
- Flexibility to work away from home and work night shift work / call outs as required
- Occasionally assist with call-out work.
- Have a positive 'can do' attitude
