Our Youth Justice Residences provide a safe, secure and supportive environment where rangatahi (young people) who have offended can make changes and get their lives back on track. In addition to maintaining secure facilities, we aim to help rehabilitate young offenders. We do this because every young person of Aotearoa deserves the chance to lead the best life they can, just like other young people their age.

The purpose of the role of the Domestic Worker is to provide a high quality and responsive domestic cleaning service within our secure Youth Justice facility, Korowai Manaaki. The safety of and outcomes for children and young persons in our care is paramount. In undertaking the duties of Domestic Worker, you will consistently demonstrate appropriate models of behaviour, ensuring that any interaction has a positive influence and brightens the outcome for those children and young persons in our care.

In this this position you will:

• Provide a professional, high-quality and responsive cleaning service across all areas including toilets, bathrooms and kitchen areas; maintain office and visitor areas to a corporate standard. This includes daily duties of assisting catering duties for onsite meetings, stocking and upholding the cleanliness of staff areas, and managing toiletry stock for the young people in care.
• Be responsible for Health and Safety by identifying and escalating hazards, risks and issues.
• Undertake stock control of all cleaning, first aid, consumables and linen supplies.
• Ensure that all tools, equipment and consumables are safely and securely managed.
• Ensure that any interaction is appropriate and has a positive influence on the rangatahi in our care.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring:

• Experience working in a commercial cleaning and office maintenance
• Empathy and understanding towards youth offenders
• Good communication skills - including basic computer skills
• The ability to work well as part of a team
• Resilience, flexibility and reliability with an appreciation of privacy and confidentiality
• Outcome focused - with the ability to work unsupervised
• The ability to pass Police Vetting and Background Safety checks (please note: Clean Slate Act does not apply)
• A full, clean New Zealand Drivers License
• Valid and current New Zealand working rights
