Job Description

Position Overview
The Riddet Institute is a world-best New Zealand Centre of Research Excellence in food and nutritional sciences, providing fundamental scientific understanding and training for a new generation of science leaders. The Institute brings together scientists across disciplines and organisations, providing a “NZ Inc” approach to food science research, and it generates knowledge and capability that transforms the New Zealand food sector.

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team. This full-time (37.5 hours per week) position is fixed term for two years. This position is based at our Manawatū campus in Palmerston North.

You will be working on the functional properties and applications of novel food ingredients produced by molecular farming. This includes conducting research on novel food ingredients, as detailed in the job description. The role offers the opportunity to collaborate with our industry partner Miruku, a dynamic biotech start-up founded by a multidisciplinary team of eminent scientists and entrepreneurs.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A PhD in food science, food technology, biotechnology, protein chemistry, or related disciplines.
  • Background in dairy and/or plant protein chemistry and technology.
  • The ability to communicate findings effectively and solve complex problems.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.


Salary will be aligned with Postdoctoral Fellow range, $81,172 - $97,988 (2024 range), commensurate with skills and experience.
