About Us
Braemar Hospital is a prestigious private surgical hospital in Hamilton, New Zealand, dedicated to supporting nearly 200 credentialed specialists, across nine operating theatres and two endoscopy suites, and providing a full range of surgical specialties and medical procedures.
Our hospital exists, quite simply, to make lives better. We know the right experience at Braemar Hospital can improve how patients and their whānau feel, and how they live, even when there’s a long journey to full recovery. To see patients, leave Braemar with a new lease on life makes our efforts worthwhile.
The service we deliver at Braemar Hospital, and the profit that generates, enables our owner, the Braemar Charitable Trust, to support our community to live better lives through funding surgeries, health-related academic scholarships, medical research, and other health-related initiatives across the Waikato.
Care and excellence are at our core. We are well-known for investing in highly sophisticated technology, equipment, and facilities to enable our highly skilled team to deliver quality, safe patient outcomes. We also invest heavily in developing a world-leading organisational culture to attract and retain the very best talent because we know the critical role our team play in surgical excellence.
The Opportunity
Our People & Safety team have been 'heads-down' over the last 18 months; busy integrating our HR service model while also leaning into new HR tech to support our journey.
Looking ahead, we have an opportunity for a senior generalist to join our team in supporting the development and capability of our leaders. This is a senior role requiring an experienced operator who can independently navigate employment relations matters and influence a consistent approach.
In terms of our workforce, we have 340 employees located on a single site, working across a range of departments including clinical, hospitality and corporate administration roles. We also interact with our clients daily, with our credentialed specialists attending our facilities to perform surgical work.
No two days are likely to be the same in this role; whether it's supporting a change management initiative, coaching a leader through a disciplinary process, supporting recruitment activity, helping us to optimise our new HRIS, or facilitating a training workshop, there will be plenty of variety to keep you busy.
In this role, you will be working alongside a supportive General Manager, who is truly focused on this opportunity mutually enhancing your career and our service model.
To be successful:
You will have proven experience in a generalist HR role, and you will be comfortable providing advice and coaching leaders on best practice;
You will have a solid foundation in ER, with demonstrated experience managing performance and disciplinary matters;
Ideally, some experience with Microsoft Office and 365 would be helpful, and you will need to be tech savvy with an ability to utilise both intuitive applications and not-so-intuitive reporting systems;
You will have a vision of ‘what good looks like’ in the HR process space and a level of tenacity to support the journey;
You will possess and exude a genuine passion for creating a great working environment and an ability to establish meaningful relationships across all levels;
You will have strong written communication skills with an ability to develop/update policies and procedures, and excellent time management skills to meet deadlines;
Ideally, you’ll have a tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related discipline;
It would be great if you've had some exposure to Health & Safety previously - but this is not essential;
Prior exposure to the health sector, particularly the Operating Theatre environment, would be amazing - but again, this is not essential.
