The Company
My client is a privately held NZ business with two major shareholders that have grown the business very quickly in the past 15 years. With a continued growth mindset, the business is looking to the next phase and is now ready for an experienced CFO to join the team to continue the growth trajectory. The owners are very much operating in the business on an everyday basis alongside some family members so it truly has a family feel but knows its time to continue bringing the professional disciplines required to allow the growth ahead, therefore this role.

The Role
The role of CFO will work closely with the Managing Director, Ops Director and Board as well as the SLT to support the functions of Finance, legal, IT and business systems. Your role will be to ensure strong financial rigor sits behind all future decisions being considered, being at the forefront of strategic decision making, driving finance transformation, operational excellence and long term profitable growth. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide robust commercial & financial insights to the Exec and Board
  • Play a leading role in business strategy development and planning
  • Develop long term financial strategies, funding, capital allocation plans
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting & forecasting
  • Cost Management
  • Partner business partners to improve business practices and enhance performance
  • Oversee risk management strategies and ensure compliance with legal and internal requirements
  • Manage the audit, internal controls and IT related risks
  • Evaluate and implement tax strategies
  • Analyse day to day financial activities, including cashflow, project margins and resource consumption
  • Oversee IT infrastructure and Asset Management
  • Maintain company insurances
  • Manage the capex decision making process
  • Lead and develop the finance team
  • Other ad hoc duties as required.


Your profile:
To be considered for this role we are looking for an individual who has prior experience as a CFO who can bring those established skills to this business, knowing what good looks like and can bring that experience to add value quickly. Your key attributes will also include:

  • Culture fit with a family owned SME type business
  • A growth mindset and previous experience in a fast growing business would be desirable
  • Strong leadership & influencing skills across the business
  • Industrial/construction type experience would be most useful – an understanding of projects/claims/tenders
  • A practical, can do person who is able to roll up the sleeves and be involved
  • Strong commercial acumen and business partnering capability.
  • A forward looking focus


This role will be office based, 5 days per week as we are looking for an individual who can drive culture, leadership and be integral to the business daily.
