Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience Department is currently looking for an inspiring leader to join the team as Manager Wai Ora Urban Partnerships.

In this dynamic role reporting to the Head of Sustainable Partnerships, you’ll lead a team of up to 10 and oversee impactful projects that improve water quality, enhance biodiversity, and mitigate flooding. You’ll work closely with local boards, iwi, community groups, and industry partners to deliver tangible benefits for Auckland’s environment and communities.

Day-to-day you would be expected to:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to a talented team, fostering their growth and success.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with iwi, local boards, community groups, and key stakeholders.
  • Develop innovative approaches to tackle urban water quality and flooding challenges, using tools like regulation and economic incentives.
  • Drive collaboration across Healthy Waters, ensuring high-performance and engagement
  • Support your team’s career development while delivering projects that make a difference.

You’re a proven leader with excellent communication skills and a knack for building strong, lasting relationships. You’re eager to inspire and support a team while collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

In this role, you’ll lead community workshops and engage with various groups, including industry bodies, political representatives, and the public. Your ability to effectively manage these stakeholder relationships will be essential.

Specifically, we are looking for:

  • A bachelor’s degree in applied science, environmental management, resource management, participatory research or social science and Māori studies.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body or working towards full membership
  • 10+ years’ experience in a related relevant technical area, including community engagement and project initiation and delivery, community development, riparian restoration and stakeholder management.
  • Leadership experience
