Generator Service Technician

With more than 90 years of combined experience in New Zealand's equipment hire industry, the team at NZ Plant Hire are experts in petrol and diesel generator sales and loader hire. Due to their continued growing reputation and work portfolio, NZ Plant Hire are looking for a Generator Service Technician to join their friendly team based in Rotorua.

In this role, you will be responsible for performing monthly and annual generator testing and servicing. This position is ideal for a limited license electrician with mechanical knowledge and ability. Training will be provided to the successful applicant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct monthly and annual testing and servicing of generators.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues with generators.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on generators, lighting towers and associated electrical equipment.
  • Preform a wide range of high-volt electrical repairs
  • Fabrication of new power cables and construct new power distribution boxes.
  • Conducting field service repairs
  • Ensure all work is completed to the highest safety standards.
  • Maintain detailed service records and reports.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and communicate effectively with clients regarding their service needs.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure timely and efficient service delivery.


Requirements:

  • EST license is advantageous but not required.
  • Experience with heavy diesel engines is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical/mechanical information clearly.
  • Class 1 Full Driver’s License with the ability to drive manual vehicles.
  • Must be confident in vehicle towing and backing
  • An understanding of Alternators
  • Flexibility to work some weekends and be available for callouts.
  • Must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
