Job Description

Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

We are seeking a technical assessor with a strong background in either veterinary science or chemistry/pharmaceutical manufacturing environments to join the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines (ACVM) team.

The ACVM team is responsible for managing risks to animal welfare, human health, trade, and biosecurity associated with the import, manufacture, sale and use of veterinary medicines and other agricultural compounds as defined by the ACVM Act 1997.

In this position you will be primarily responsible for undertaking the evaluation of scientific data and preparing regulatory reports using risk management principles for the purposes of authorising veterinary medicines under the ACVM Act 1997.

Mōu - About You

We are seeking an enthusiastic team member who has:

  • A chemistry, veterinary (or equivalent) science degree and at least two years' experience in a related field;
  • Experience in either chemistry/pharmaceutical manufacturing or veterinary science/clinical practice environments is preferred and will provide a solid foundation in this role;
  • You will have an excellent working knowledge and understanding of the concepts and practices for information gathering, organising and communication;
  • You will be able to apply an analytical framework and quickly understand the nature of technical issues and problems, identify a range of solutions and their implications, form conclusions and provide advice;
  • You must have excellent attention to detail and be able to quickly adapt and think agilely.
  • You will be confident and able to communicate well in a wide range of environments and have strong and established technical writing abilities as report writing is a key part of the role.
  • You do not need to meet all of the role requirements to apply. We offer a breadth of development and learning opportunities and will welcome an application if you think you could make a great fit.

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team

The ACVM veterinary medicines assessment team is currently made up of nine permanent and two casual technical staff, all who have a passion for providing and maintaining availability of veterinary medicines that are safe and efficacious for use in both companion and production animals. The assessment team is a high performing team, diverse in terms of age group, ethnicity and scientific background. We work collaboratively in a supportive and development focussed environment.

The ACVM veterinary medicines assessment team is Wellington based; however some members do reside across the motu, including both the North and South Islands. The team comes together in Wellington for at regular intervals throughout the year. The team is keen to welcome an engaged colleague who is passionate and committed to contributing to a strong cohesive team.

We work hard as we see real value in the work that we do both as part of the wider MPI organisation and for New Zealand as a whole. This is an opportunity to be an integral part of a team that is doing important and rewarding work, and who also enjoy catching up for a bit social interaction outside of work, often with the wider ACVM team.[SH1]
