Learn to Swim Instructor | Birkenhead Pool and Leisure Centre
Here at Auckland Council, our leisure centres play a key role in achieving our goal of getting Auckland to be the most active city in the world. And right now, we’re looking for part-time Learn to Swim Instructors to join our Pool and Leisure Centre teams across Auckland to help achieve that goal!
This is a fantastic job where you don’t need any formal qualifications or experience to apply – just a passion to work with our diverse community while also making a difference! We'll provide the training you need to succeed in the role.
Please note that the official title for this role is Team Member. Based at Birkenhead Pool and Leisure Centre, day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Teaching people the basic principles of how to swim (we'll teach you how to do this!)
- Maintaining a fun, caring and safe environment for customers and visitors
- Being part of an amazing team serving your local community
- Pool lessons for preschool to school age
- We would love to hear from those who can work 8 hours per week. See shifts below:
Saturday:10:55am-3:05pm & Wednesday 3:15pm-7:15pm
He kōrero mōu: About you
You are a great swimmer and instructor, have a love of water, have exceptional customer service skills, and can communicate well with members of the public.
You don’t need any formal qualifications or experience. Swim assessment is required:
- Tread water for 1 minute
- 33m and 200 swim stroke of your choice
If you do have a recognised swim teacher qualification or previous experience as a Swimming Instructor, that would be fantastic! However, we will provide full, comprehensive training. You must also be willing to complete First Aid training.

We strongly encourage up-skilling and training. Once you are hired you would have the opportunity to pick up extra hours in a variety of roles such as Lifeguard, Customer Service Rep, Recreation Assistant and more.

Pay rate: $27.80 /hr
