He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Council’s Great Barrier Island Service Centre has an exciting opportunity for an administrative professional to join our dedicated team. This dynamic role will see you supporting the delivery of operational excellence to the Aotea / Great Barrier Island community. You will bring your organisational and people skills to the table, collaborating closely with the greater team that serve the island, from building control and community facilities to waste solutions and parks.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Supporting the delivery of services across Great Barrier Island, including building control, library services, waste solutions, cemetery services, and community facilities.
- Actively participating in the management of community facilities, ensuring a smooth and responsive service.
- Handling diverse and shifting service demands, adapting to the unique needs of the island community.
- Engaging with customers on the ground, delivering excellent customer service and building strong relationships.
- Encouraging and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement within the team.

This role requires experience in similar support or customer facing roles, with a sound understanding of operational delivery in a varied and sometimes high demand environment. The ideal candidate will be an energetic and enthusiastic team player who thrives on hands-on service, is comfortable managing multiple responsibilities, and is eager to make a positive impact on the community.
You’ll need to be highly organised and adaptable, with a strong focus on customer service, and a passion for delivering quality service with a personal touch. Your local knowledge of Aotea / Great Barrier Island will be invaluable in this role as you interact with the community on a daily basis.
We will be looking for specific experience with:
- Proven experience in a customer service environment, ideally within a similar support or operational role.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities.
- A positive and can-do attitude, willing to go the extra mile to ensure service excellence.
- Excellent relationship building and collaboration skills to work effectively with both internal teams and the community.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- In depth knowledge of Aotea / Great Barrier Island and its unique logistics and community needs would be highly advantageous.
