THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Digital Development team is on the lookout for a passionate Quality Engineer to join our dynamic team! In this role, you'll play a key part in ensuring our products, applications, and systems are top-notch and meet NZME's high standards. You'll collaborate with our awesome cross-functional team to define test coverage, craft testing strategies, and write tests. Plus, you'll have the chance to work closely with our Head of Quality Engineering, learning and contributing to our overall test processes, including building innovative new automation tools and frameworks.

HOW YOU’LL DO IT:

Quality Engineering:

  • Assist in creating test cases based on product requirements and design specifications.
  • Execute manual test cases to verify that the software functions as expected.
  • Identify, record, and track bugs using bug tracking software (e.g., Jira, Bugzilla).
  • Work with developers and other QE engineers to verify bug fixes.
  • Work with fellow team members to diagnose defects.
  • Follow recognised software best practices (e.g., software version control, SDLC).
  • Participate in learning and development opportunities to improve testing skills and knowledge of QE processes.
  • Contribute to the improvement of testing processes and methodologies.
  • Contribute to the test activities in the cross-functional team.
  • Think strategically and with vision that aligns with NZME’s goals.


Automation Testing (Optional but Desirable):

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of automated test scripts using scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, or Java).
  • Run automated test suites and report results.
  • Be a creative and proactive thinker and make use of current technologies to provide test results.


Planning and Organisational Skills:

  • Work quickly and efficiently, managing time and prioritising to meet all deadlines.
  • Liaise effectively in planning meetings.
  • Operate with an NZME-wide mentality, fostering strong communication within your team.


Security Compliance:

  • Ensure security testing is conducted as part of continuous integration.
  • Adhere to PCI Compliance.
  • Ensure penetration testing and ongoing security audits.
  • Awareness of OWASP standards for secured application development is a plus.


About You:

  • Experience or coursework in frontend/backend technologies and QA.
  • Knowledge of Agile and other development methodologies.
  • Basic understanding of Manual Testing and automation tools.
  • Familiarity with version control tools and basic web technologies.
  • Ability to write simple SQL queries
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks
  • Exposure to cloud services.
  • Passionate about secure, reusable, scalable, and testable code.
  • Proactive, analytical, and a strong problem-solver.
  • Effective communicator and team player.
  • Curious and up-to-date with the latest technologies.
  • Committed to secure coding practices.
