The Auckland Botanic Gardens is a key attraction in Auckland, drawing over a million visitors annually. The team works hard to create an accessible and enjoyable environment for both locals and tourists. By carefully curating and maintaining these diverse plant collections both exotic and native, the gardens serve as a living museum and showcase for New Zealand's rich botanical heritage.
We are seeking a passionate and experienced horticulturist to join our team at Auckland Botanic Gardens, where you will have the opportunity to mentor and guide emerging horticulturists in our traineeship programs, sharing your expertise in plant care, garden design, and sustainable practices. In this role, you’ll collaborate with a talented team to maintain and enhance our diverse plant collections, contribute to the development of new garden spaces, and inspire visitors with your enthusiasm for the natural world.
Key responsibilities:
• Maintenance of amenity gardens using a variety of plant and equipment
• Ensure the appropriate plant introductions are made and all plants (where required) are labelled
• Maintain and update records of all data relevant to the gardens regularly
• Liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders including garden visitors, friends, local user groups, Iwi, and commercial users
• Conserve plants relevant to the portfolio in collaboration with DOC, Iwi, and stakeholders
• Maintain turf (including open space mowing) and assist as required with maintenance of structures & hard landscaped areas

The salary for this role starts at $63,000 per annum.
