Our Auckland Council Financial Advisory department has a permanent full-time opportunity for a Principal Advisor to join the team!

As an Advisor you will be responsible for providing direct advice and support for the oversight and management of the council parent’s plans, budgets, financial performance, and delivery of the department’s priorities.

You will be a part of the department lead team and where necessary lead the delivery of projects that support the efficient and effective functioning of the department.

You can expect to work on:

  • Providing advice to the General Manager Financial Advisory regarding the council’s budget, its alignment to strategy, and appropriateness of assumptions made.
  • Oversight and monitoring of the council’s financial performance to provide meaningful insights and identify risks.
  • Preparing and/or reviewing high quality reporting content for council parent performance to support decision-making.
  • Preparing and/or reviewing high quality advice and political reporting to support decision making by elected members.


He kōrero mōu: About you
To be successful in this role you will need to have at least 10 years of experience in finance or accounting, and previous experience with financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and business performance management. Ideally, you will have experience working in government or related organisations.

We will also be looking for:

  • Demonstratable experience with relationship management to influence a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Project management experience
