Our Treasury function is responsible for funding and financing Wellington City Council's long-term plan and insuring our precious taonga, strategically using all financial tools available to us within the local government setting. With a focus on the 'big picture' this team leads treasury, investment, and insurances for the Council.

The role
The Treasury Team are looking for an Advisor Treasury & Funding to provide support with:

  • The insurance function to process claims enquiries and insurance renewals.
  • Participation in strategic management of our insurance portfolio including alternative risk transfer mechanisms.
  • Management of investments and the balance sheet.
  • Investigation, development and implementation of funding and finance tools.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Financial risk management.
  • This is a permanent fulltime role Monday - Friday (40 hours per week) based at our Council offices located on The Terrace, Wellington.


Appointment in band for this role will be between $85,645 - $100,758 and based on prior skills and experience.

About you
You'll be working within treasury and developing a career in this specialist function. Presenting with knowledge of the unique environment of local government you will have prior experience in corporate insurance activities which is a key component of this role.

You will be a proactive learner and have a relevant tertiary qualification and knowledge in financial markets/economics/commerce etc. Along with polished communication skills, you will have the following demonstrable knowledge of and experience,

  • An understanding of the operations of treasury and insurance functions
  • Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills with a focus on the provision of strategic insights
  • An understanding of treasury accounting including FX, liquidity, cashflow and various financial instruments
  • Knowledge of banking relationships and covenants
