Join the Digital Workplace service group at Westpac as we seek a talented and skilled Senior Infrastructure Engineer.
We are looking for an exceptional candidate to manage and maintain our progressive identity and access environment. This pivotal role demands a deep understanding of identity and access management, coupled with outstanding problem-solving and communication skills. A strong understanding of industry best practices is expected, and a methodical yet pragmatic approach to challenging the status quo is actively encouraged in this high-functioning, close-knit team.

Some key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Overseeing the daily operations of Active Directory and Entra ID environments, ensuring their health, performance, and security. This includes performing regular updates, patches, and backups to maintain system integrity. Additionally, developing and implementing automation scripts to streamline identity management tasks and collaborating with other IT teams and outsourced partners to integrate identity services with other infrastructure components.
  • Managing user identities, roles, and access permissions across on-premises and cloud environments, implementing and enforcing security policies like Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Conditional Access. Monitoring and responding to security incidents and vulnerabilities.
  • Configuring and maintaining Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions for enterprise applications. This includes ensuring seamless integration of SSO with various authentication protocols (SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect) and troubleshooting SSO-related issues to ensure uninterrupted access.
  • Providing an escalation support to outsourced engineers as needed and offering consultancy, guidance, and support to business squads for major changes to applications, new applications, and significant upgrades throughout the lifecycle of application platforms within the virtual environment.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously is also a key responsibility, including projects related to O365 and Teams. Providing hands-on support alongside outsourced partner engineers based in NZ and offshore, focusing on BAU work to keep operations running smoothly. Additionally, acting as a 2nd / 3rd level escalation point to collaboratively resolve complex issues.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures is important. Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, conducting regular audits, and assessments to identify and mitigate risks are also key responsibilities.


Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

  • 7+ years of proven professional experience in a similar role, within the banking/financial services industry preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge and experience in managing: Active Directory (AD) environment, Entra ID, Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions, Microsoft Teams, Office 365
  • Demonstrable understanding and application of information security best practice standards and guidelines
  • Experience managing and maintaining High Availability platforms, with the ability to handle multiple requests and prioritise.
  • Comfortable working with 3rd parties to solve complex multi-stakeholder issues.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting, solutioning, and resolving service and operational issues, including root cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain and present technical concepts clearly, and the capability to knowledge-share/mentor to cross-skill with colleagues.
