The Opportunity | Te kowhiringa
As the Yard Person for our Te Rapa, Hamilton depot, you’ll be responsible for depot maintenance, deliveries, and storage. Day-to-day tasks will include:
- Assisting in the management of specific small plant items and ensuring compliance with the depot management plan.
- Receive, accept, unload materials, and dispatch materials to projects (includes the handling and storage of dangerous and hazardous goods)
- General maintenance
- Ensure all plant and equipment are compliant, calibrated and that registers are kept up to date (Slings, chains, measuring wheels, etc.)
- Organising general maintenance e.g. management of waste bins, depot cleanliness, and clearance of interceptor pits, etc.
- Work with Depot Lead to keep depot compliant
- Ensuring all documentation is in order each step of the way.
You will also be responsible for the successful adherence to depot management and emergency plans, which include environmental maintenance of the truck wash-down point and stormwater interceptors. Within the office, you’ll be responsible for the coordination of repairs, maintenance, and receipting of deliveries.

You’ll take real pride in your work and the depot itself, making sure all of the above is in order. You’ll be self-motivated and have a strong work ethic. You will need:
- A Full Drivers license is essential
- Class 2, Class 4, WTR & Forklift Licence are useful but not required
- Building maintenance background
- Experience in managing small plant and equipment
- Good communication skills to liaise with people at all levels
- A good level of physical fitness as there is some heavy lifting involved
