Join our Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience team as a Principal Regional Technical Engineer. In this key role, you’ll lead and champion multiple aspects of three waters operations, focusing on stormwater network issues.
You’ll provide strategic thinking, technical expertise, and operational guidance to ensure industry best practices and pragmatic solutions. Collaborate with various Council bodies, manage risks, and build strong relationships with stakeholders. Your role will also emphasise health and safety, financial management, and continuous improvement.

Day-to-day you can expect to work on:
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in and develop continuous improvement initiatives.
- Technical Support: Provide engineering technical input, support area operations teams, and oversee complex emergency repairs and capital works.
- Strategic Leadership: Lead strategic thinking, policy development, and provide technical input on operational guidance documents and engineering standards.
- Innovation: Ensure Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience is recognized as an international leader in water infrastructure operations.
- Team Culture: Collaborate closely with your manager to enhance team culture.
- Complex Issue Management: Manage complex issues, understand the legal status of water issues in New Zealand, and work with the legal department to protect the Council.

He kōrero mōu: About you
For this position you will need to have at least 10 years’ work experience in a combination of three waters infrastructure sector. You will also have a bachelor’s degree in civil, water or environmental engineering and a bonus would be holding a chartered or professional registration status.
As this is a Principal level role, it will go without saying that you have the maturity and confidence to work independently. You will also have a substantial amount of site safety, design and risk management experience under your belt.
Your ability to be flexible will also be taken into consideration as this role will require the successful applicant to undertake an ‘On Call’ duty on a rostered basis every 5-6 weeks.
