Auckland Council has an exciting opportunity for a Level 2 Cyber Security Analyst to join our Security Operations team, which sits in our Technology Services department. This is a Fixed-Term role for the period January 2025-December 2025.

This critical role as a Level 2 Cyber Security Analyst will protect Auckland Council against ever-evolving security threats. In the role, you will detect and respond to threats, breaches, and cybercrime. You will also be monitoring Council’s systems and tooling and implementing measures to improve our detection aperture and security posture.

About the role / Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and Detection - Monitor Council’s Security Tools and Systems for alerts and abnormalities.
  • Incident Response – Co-ordinating, triaging and responding to cyber incidents
  • Security Tools and Technology – Configure, tune, improve and integrate security tooling to ensure security alerts are operational and effective
  • Vulnerability Management and Assessment – Conduct Vulnerability Assessments of platforms and liaising with Stakeholders to ensure resolution
  • Threat Intelligence – Leverage threat intel to inform analysis
  • Reporting and Communication– Documenting findings and being able to communicate effectively with stakeholders at varying levels of the business
  • Threat Hunting - Identify new risks & Threats and implement security countermeasures

This role requires at least 3 years’ experience in similar roles, within any of the following areas, ideally from within large and complex organisations:

  • Threat Detection / Threat Hunting / Threat Intelligence
  • Host-based and Network analysis
  • SIEM / Log analysis
  • Incident Response / Incident Management / Tabletop Exercises
  • Vulnerability Assessment / Vulnerability Management
  • Firewall systems / Firewall reviews / ACLs
  • Malware analysis / Reverse Engineering
  • Purple-Teaming
  • Performing technical report writing / Security research and analysis
  • Information/Cyber Security
  • Broad understanding of security incident management processes and tools


Not essential to the role, but would still be considered:

  • Pentesting/Red-teaming
  • Digital Forensics


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Recognised industry certifications, such as Sec+, Blue Team Level 1, CySA+, CISSP, SC-200 are desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
