General Marine Services is one of the longest established marine engineering companies in Auckland, catering to commercial vessels, local privately owned craft of all sizes as well as a strong history on overseas visiting vessels of all sizes.

We seek a Marine Engineer / Diesel Mechanic with a wide range of engineering experience to join our team - someone who loves what they do and loves to learn. This is a full time role working Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm.

You will enjoy full support from the management team and be well-remunerated in return for the level of your talent, but it will be very much left to you to carve out your own success, and self-motivation will have a big part to play.

We are looking for a competent and confident trades person who knows diesel engines, has been exposed to general engineering, and might have diagnostic experience with computer interfaces. The position offers significant variety and will cover all marine systems commonly found on board small and large vessels.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing accurate job records and assisting with estimates and quotations
  • Installing/maintaining equipment
  • General servicing and testing of mechanical equipment
  • Dealing with clients professionally and providing excellent customer service
  • Repairing marine systems and equipment
  • Repair and service OEM, engines and generators
  • Service and maintain various marine propulsion engines


The successful applicant will have/be:

  • Technical and problem-solving skills
  • A mature attitude with commitment to high standards
  • Strong work ethic and initiative
  • Clear and fluent English communication skills
  • The ability to work well within a team and independently
  • Be clean, tidy, dependable, and honest
  • Must have your own hand tools
